Q. What is a life coach?
A. Life coaching is a synergistic relationship between an accredited life coach and a client designed to tap into your full potential. Part consultant, part motivational speaker, part therapist and part rent-a-friend, coaches work with managers, entrepreneurs, and just plain folks, helping them define and achieve their goals — career, personal, spiritual,relationships, finances.
Q. What is a shaman
A. Shamans work with the spirit or the soul. They heal illness at the soul level. They gain knowledge and insight from working with the spirits of nature such as rocks and trees, the land, and they gain knowledge from working with spirits of animals and humans such as their ancestors. For the shaman, everything is alive and carries information. You can call this spirit, energy, or consciousness.
Q. When would I see a shaman
A. Ideally, you wouldn’t wait until there’s a problem to see a shaman. Shamans are particularly good at preventive care. From a shamanic perspective, when you have unresolved trauma in your life—whether it’s a family conflict, a self esteem issue, repressed sexuality, or fight with your best friend—unresolved emotions can manifest as physical symptoms ranging from a recurring stomach ache (hello mind gut connection) to full-blown disease.
Shamans believe that if you change your lifestyle and heal your emotions, then your genes only play a 10 percent part of what happens to you physically.
That said, it’s never too late. You can simultaneously go to a Western doctor to treat your physical symptoms and seek a shaman’s advice on getting to the deep root of a physical, emotional, and spiritual trauma. Typically, someone can seek out a shaman once for a plan, but if something major is going on, they come for regular check-ups. Yep, just like a traditional doctor.
